Numbers
A Radio 4
series about five of
my favourite numbers
|
| First transmitted on
Tuesdays at 9.30am from September 25 to October 23, 2001, and
then repeated each day between March 11 and March 15, 2002. |

Adrian Washbourne and I have
tried to create a semi-lighthearted series of 15-minute
programmes. We look at the fundamental numbers, their
personalities, their uses, how they were invented (or is that
discovered?), and how they have changed the world. We range
from the philosophical implications of zero to the paradoxes
of infinity, from the weirdness of the imaginary number to the
inherent beauty of the golden
ratio. |

Along
the way, I talked to mathematicians such as Greg
Chaitin and Ian
Stewart, and comedians (and
ex-mathematicians) Dave Gorman
and Adam
Spencer. To find out more about the 5 numbers
featured on the show and to hear the programmes, visit
the pages on the left hand menu bar. |
